SpeedTest is Ookla's local device testing tool, which is especially suitable for testing the speed after hanging a VPN. If you just want to test the speed of Chinese network, there are many similar tools in China. But if you use a VPN or proxy to test the speed of your network, it's the best free tool in the world.

It's free and available for web, Mac, Windows, iOS, Android, etc. The web version has a lot of adverts, so it's good for temporary use. If you use it frequently, we recommend you to download and install its app, which has less ads and better experience.

Test Parameters

  1. Download speed:
    • Measures the data transfer rate from the test server to the user's device, usually expressed in Mbps (Megabits per second).
  2. Upload Speed:
    • Measures the rate of data transfer from the user device to the test server, also expressed in Mbps.
  3. Latency (Ping):
    • Measures the time it takes for a packet to be sent from the user device to the test server and back, usually expressed in milliseconds (ms). The lower the latency, the faster the network response.
  4. Jitter:
    • Measures the volatility of latency and reflects the stability of the network. Lower jitter values mean a more stable connection.
  5. Packet Loss Rate:
    • Measures the proportion of packets lost during data transmission, usually expressed as a percentage. A high packet loss rate can affect the quality of real-time applications such as video calls and online gaming.
